BASIS Phoenix opened in August 2012 featuring the same course of study as its award-winning sister schools in Scottsdale and Tucson. BASIS Phoenix offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum for students in grades 5–12. Our first 12th grade class graduated in May 2014.
The BASIS Phoenix primary school program focuses on building organizational and study skills and creating a deep knowledge base necessary for students to tackle a demanding AP-based upper school curriculum. In 5th grade, students are introduced to Latin, Classics, General Science, and Physical Geography. Then, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are offered as individual science courses beginning in 6th grade, and students in 7th grade continue the study of these subjects while also deciding whether to continue to pursue Latin or to switch to the study of a modern foreign language such as Mandarin, French, or Spanish.
The Upper School program, which has brought the BASIS.ed curriculum repeated recognition as one of the top 10 high school programs in the country by U.S. News, Newsweek, and The Washington Post, offers students a rigorous college-preparatory course of study. Students begin taking Advanced Placement® (AP) courses as early as 8th grade and will take at least eight AP courses and six AP® exams by the time they graduate.
