BASIS San Antonio Medical Center is located in a beautiful facility at the heart of the growing Medical Technology Center. BASIS San Antonio opened in 2013 to more than 500 students in grades 5–8. We offer the same rigorous academic program as our sister schools, BASIS Scottsdale and BASIS Tucson, taking into account the previous educational background of all incoming students.
The primary program focuses on building organizational and study skills and creating a deep knowledge base necessary for students to tackle a demanding AP-based upper school curriculum. In 5th grade, students are introduced to Latin, Classics, General Science, and Physical Geography. Then, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are offered as individual science courses beginning in 6th grade, and students in 7th grade continue the study of these subjects while also deciding whether to continue pursuing Latin or to switch to the study of a modern foreign language such as Mandarin, French, or Spanish.
The BASIS San Antonio Medical Center high school program is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 high school programs in the country by U.S. News, Newsweek, and The Washington Post. AP exams are required and paid for by the school. Upper School students can begin taking Advanced Placement exams as early as 8th grade and will take at least eight AP courses and six AP exams by the end of their junior year.
